1. Overview

Have you ever wanted to layer a voice recording over background music, or combine multiple sound clips into one? Easy Audio Mixer makes it simple.

It gives you a visual timeline where you arrange audio tracks, adjust each one independently, and export in your preferred format. Everything runs locally on your Mac — no uploads, no accounts, no tracking.

Easy Audio Mixer works with MP3, WAV, AIFF, M4A, MP2, OGG, FLAC, and many more via ffmpeg. The free edition lets you export ringtones for free, plus partial exports in other formats. Premium unlocks full-length exports in all formats.

2. Quick Start

1. Import audio — Drag files from Finder, import from Music Library, or record directly in the app.
2. Arrange on the timeline — Drag tracks to position them where you want them to start.
3. Adjust the mix — Set volume and pan for each track, add fade effects if you like.
4. Preview — Press Space to play and hear how your mix sounds.
5. Export — Choose your format and save the finished mix.

That's it — your first mix in five steps.

3. Adding Audio

You can bring audio into Easy Audio Mixer in several ways:

• Drag & drop — Drag audio files from Finder directly onto the mixer window.
• File > Import Media... (⌘I) — Browse and select audio files from your file system.
• File > Import from Music Library — Import tracks directly from your Music app.
• File > Record... — Capture voice or instruments live using the built-in recorder (see section 7).
• File > Open Recent — Re-import recently used media files.

Each track appears on the timeline with its waveform visualization. You can reorder tracks by dragging them in the track list.

4. Timeline & Editing

The timeline is where you arrange and shape your mix. Key actions:

• Drag tracks horizontally to set different start times for each track.
• Waveform display shows the audio content visually so you can see what's happening.
• Click anywhere on the timeline to move the playback cursor.
• Play / Pause — Press Space or use the transport controls to preview your mix.

Cut & Duplicate

Need to trim a track or repeat a section? Use the editing tools:

• Cut — Slice a track at the cursor position. Delete unwanted sections or rearrange the pieces.
• Duplicate — Copy a track for layering effects or creating repeated patterns.

Both operations are available via the Edit menu or by right-clicking on a track.

5. Volume, Pan & Solo

Each track has independent controls in the track inspector:

• Volume slider — Adjust the track's output level. Range: 0% to 200%.
• Pan slider — Position the track in the stereo field from left (-100%) to right (+100%). Center is 0.
• Solo toggle — Isolate a single track for preview. All other tracks are temporarily muted. Great for checking individual elements of your mix.

Changes take effect in real-time during playback so you can hear adjustments immediately.

6. Fade In / Fade Out

Fade effects create smooth transitions at the beginning and end of a track:

• Fade In — Gradually raises volume from silence at the start of the track.
• Fade Out — Gradually lowers volume to silence at the end of the track.

Enable fades in the track inspector and set the duration. The fade curve is visualized directly on the waveform so you can see exactly where it starts and ends.

7. Built-in Recording

Don't have a pre-recorded file? Capture audio directly in Easy Audio Mixer via File > Record...:

1. Choose the New Recording tab to capture fresh audio, or use the History tab to reuse a past recording.
2. Configure your device — Select input source, recording format (M4A, WAV, or AIFF), sample rate, channels, and bit depth.
3. For M4A recordings, choose between CBR (set a fixed bitrate) or VBR (quality-based variable bitrate).
4. Click the Record button to start. Use Pause to temporarily halt, or Stop to finish.
5. A dual-channel VU meter shows input levels in real time so you can monitor your recording.
6. After stopping, use Play to preview, Save to keep, or Delete to discard.
7. Click Insert — the recorded clip appears as a new track on the timeline, ready to arrange, edit, and mix.

This is ideal for voice-overs, quick instrument captures, or any audio you want to layer into your mix without switching to a separate app.

8. Exporting Your Mix

When your mix sounds right, it's time to export:

1. Choose format — Select your desired output format from the export dialog.
2. Set options — Adjust bitrate, sample rate, and quality settings for your chosen format.
3. Pick location — Select where the exported file will be saved.
4. Click Export — The mix is rendered and saved.

9. Saving Projects

You can save your work as a project file and continue later — available in both free and premium tiers.

Creating and Opening Projects

• File > New (⌘N) — Create a new empty project.
• File > Open (⌘O) — Browse and open an existing .amproj file.
• File > Project — Quickly reopen a recently used project (up to 9 recent files).
• Drag & drop — Drag a .amproj file onto the app window or Dock icon to open it.

Saving

• File > Save (⌘S) — Save the current project. If it's a new project, prompts for a location.
• File > Save As... (⇧⌘S) — Save to a new project file with a different name or location.

If you close a project with unsaved changes, Easy Audio Mixer will prompt you to save, discard, or cancel.

What Gets Saved

Projects are saved as .amproj files (JSON format). Each project stores the complete state of your mix:

• Audio sources — References to the audio files used in your project.
• Tracks and slices — Track arrangement, cut positions, and duplicate layout on the timeline.
• Mix settings — Volume, pan, fade in/out values, and solo state for each track.
• Output configuration — Export format, output folder (as a security-scoped bookmark), output file name, and output length.
• Playback position — The current timestamp so you can resume where you left off.

The .amproj file does not embed the audio data itself — it references your original files by path. This keeps project files small and fast to save.

11. Troubleshooting

Export fails: Check that the output folder is accessible and you have enough disk space. View the log with ⌘L for details.

Track won't load: Make sure it's a supported audio format. DRM-protected files cannot be imported. Check the log for specific error messages.

Playback is silent: Check that the track isn't muted, its volume is above 0%, and no track is soloed while others should be playing.

Recording doesn't capture audio: Go to System Settings > Sound > Input and confirm the correct device is selected. Check that the input level is not set to zero.

Can't export full length: Non-members are limited to ringtone exports or partial exports for all other formats. Upgrade to Premium for full-length exports in all formats.

Project can't find audio files: If you've moved or renamed the original audio files since saving the project, use File > Open and re-link the files when prompted.
