MySonicFlow — The complete guide to audio processing.

Version 2.6.0 — Convert, edit, adjust, and record all in one suite.

1. Overview

MySonicFlow brings four audio tools into one integrated macOS app. Use the segmented picker at the top of the window to switch between modules:

• Converter — Batch convert audio files between 9 output formats.
• Metadata — Edit ID3v2 and MP4 tags with batch editing support.
• Recorder — Capture voice or instruments with configurable format, bitrate, and channels.
• Gain — Normalize volume with EBU R128 broadcast-standard loudness matching.

Everything runs locally on your Mac — no uploads, no accounts, no tracking. Modules keep their own state, so switching doesn't lose your work.

2. Converter — Batch Format Conversion

Adding Files

• Drag & drop — Drop audio files anywhere on the window.
• Cmd+O — Open the file browser to select one or more audio files.
• Music Library — Import tracks from your Music app.
• Recent — Reopen recently used files from the dropdown.

Choosing the Output Format

Use the Format picker in the toolbar. Nine output formats are available:

Advanced Format Settings

Click the gear icon next to the Format picker to configure:

• Codec — Available codecs for the selected format.
• Sample rate — 8,000 Hz to 96,000 Hz, or "same as source".
• Bitrate mode — CBR (constant) or VBR (variable).
• Bitrate — Codec-specific range (e.g. MP3: 32–320 kbps).
• Channel layout — Auto, Mono, Stereo, 2.1, 3.0, 5.1, or 7.1.

Click Apply to All to copy settings to every file in the list.

Per-File Customization

Each file row has its own controls:

• A gear icon to give that file independent format settings.
• A pencil icon to edit the output file name.

Converting Files

Select the files you want to convert and click the circular Convert button. During conversion:

• A progress ring shows on each file being processed.
• A clock icon marks files waiting in the queue (up to 4 concurrent based on CPU).
• Green checkmark = success (click to reveal in Finder).
• Red exclamation mark = failed (click to view the log).

Click the button again to stop. Closing the window while exporting shows a warning first.

3. Metadata Editor

The Metadata module lets you edit audio tags. Changes are saved directly to the files.

Supported Tag Formats

• ID3v2 — MP3 files: title, artist, album, genre, year, track number, and artwork.
• MP4 Tags — M4A/MP4 files: same fields.

How to Edit Tags

1. Switch to the Metadata tab.
2. Add files via drag-and-drop or ⌘O.
3. Select a file in the list to view and edit its tags.
4. Click Save to write changes to the file.

Batch Editing

Select multiple files and edit common fields (artist, album, genre, year) to apply the same value to all selected files at once.

Artwork Management

• Add artwork — Drag an image onto the artwork area, or click to browse.
• Extract artwork — Right-click and choose "Save Image As...".
• Remove artwork — Select and press Delete.

4. Recorder

Capture audio directly in MySonicFlow without switching apps.

1. Switch to the Recorder tab.
2. Configure your device — Select input source, format (M4A, WAV, or AIFF), sample rate, channels, and bit depth.
3. For M4A, choose CBR (fixed bitrate) or VBR (quality-based).
4. Click Record to start. A dual-channel VU meter shows input levels.
5. Use Pause to temporarily halt, or Stop to finish.
6. Preview with Play, then Save to keep or Delete to discard.

Recordings are saved in the History tab and can be reused across sessions.

5. Gain Adjustment

The Gain module normalizes audio volume with professional precision using EBU R128.

Adding Files

Use the Add button (⌘O), drag-and-drop, or import from Music Library. Each file shows its current RMS level, peak level, and target configuration.

Configuration

Click the gear icon to adjust three parameters:

• Integrated Loudness — Target overall loudness (-70 to -5 LUFS, default -24). Streaming platforms use -14 to -24 LUFS.
• Loudness Range — How much volume can vary within a track (1 to 50 LU, default 7).
• True Peak — Absolute maximum level (-9 to 0 dB, default -2). Set to -1 or -2 for playback safety margin.

Processing

Select files and click Start. Files are processed using ffmpeg's EBU R128 loudnorm filter. Processed files are saved to your output folder — or replace the originals if that option is enabled.

Presets

• Default — Standard loudness at -24 LUFS.
• Podcast — Optimized for spoken word at -16 LUFS.
• Music — RMS volume at -20 dB.
• Streaming-video — Platform-ready at -14 LUFS.

Processing fails: Click the red indicator to view the log (⌘L). Common causes: corrupted source files, inaccessible output folder, or insufficient disk space.

Metadata editor is locked: Metadata editing requires a premium subscription. Activate via Help > Subscription....

Gain says quota exhausted: The free tier limits gain adjustments to 3 files per day. Your quota resets daily. Upgrade to Premium for unlimited processing.

Recording doesn't capture audio: Verify microphone permission in System Preferences. Check that the correct input device is selected. Click Refresh if a device isn't listed.

File won't import: Ensure the file is a supported audio format. DRM-protected tracks cannot be imported.
